First Tribal Bellydance Troupe in Puerto Rico

NUYUM was the first Tribal Dance Troupe in Puerto Rico created by Zeina since 2002. With the arrival of NUYUM, doors were opened for other dance styles and to demonstrate the extensive variety of styles of the oriental dances. NUYUM has made various presentations to show this new style, being gladly accepted by the community. Throughout the years, Puerto Rico has enjoyed the many representations of the bellydance and it has become very popular. With the Tribal Dance, new dancers are born to add more diversity into the dances.

Tribal Dance is a fusion between oriental rythms. Bellydance, flamenco, Kathak, Gipsy and ballet are mixed to create this peculiar dance style. Tribal Dance should be performed by two or more dancers. The dance appears to be choreographed, but is not, a dancer steps as a leader and the others follow the movements which have a special language between them.
